A pharmacist's travel sickness advice: 5 things to try before your next journey
Travel sickness advice is easy to collect and harder to remember when you're already feeling awful. Start with a few changes you can make before leaving home.
1. Rethink the drive-through stop
In advice reported by the Express, pharmacist Abbas Kanani recommends lighter meals instead of a heavy meal before travel. If a large breakfast leaves you uncomfortable before you've moved, it probably isn't the breakfast to test before a winding drive.
2. Put the phone away
Kanani also advises against reading and looking at screens. Choose audio entertainment before you set off, then put the device somewhere you won't keep picking it up.
3. Give your eyes a distant reference
Looking toward the horizon can help your eyes and balance system receive more consistent information about movement. It's a useful reason to pause the book, even if you're halfway through the good chapter.
4. Try calm, regular breathing
When discomfort starts, focus on a comfortable breathing rhythm. Kanani includes breathing in his advice for people caught unprepared. Read the original pharmacist advice in the Express.
5. Treat ginger as an option, not a promise
Ginger appears in plenty of travel tips, including Kanani's. The CDC describes the supporting evidence as weak and contradictory. Don't rely on a packet of sweets as your entire plan for a journey that regularly makes you ill. CDC evidence review.
An introduction to Ollaway
If you're also exploring accessories that don't involve taking medicine, Ollaway is worth a closer look. Our lensless glasses use four partly filled blue-liquid rings to add a horizon-like cue around your vision.
You can use the same pair again on later trips, and there's nothing to charge. They're a separate product to explore alongside the travel advice above; the pharmacist quoted here hasn't endorsed Ollaway, and the glasses aren't a guaranteed remedy.
Your 25% off, for the fall drives
See the blue rings for yourself. Claim the current fall offer on the Ollaway landing page.
