Why do some people feel motion sickness while others don't? 5 reasons the same drive feels different
One person opens a book. Someone else is watching the road and counting the minutes until the next stop. Same car, same journey, very different afternoon.

1. Your senses can disagree about whether you're moving
Your inner ear detects the car's movement. Your eyes, focused on a page or the seat ahead, may see something still. That mismatch can trigger motion sickness.
2. Some of the difference runs in families
Genetic variations affect susceptibility. Two people can react differently to the same bends, even with their phones put away.
3. Age makes a difference
Children are generally more susceptible than adults. Sensitivity often decreases as they grow older, although some people continue to get travel sick throughout adult life.
4. The driver knows the turn is coming
Drivers anticipate their own braking and steering. Passengers have less warning. That helps explain why someone can feel fine behind the wheel and queasy on the way home as a passenger.
5. Familiar movement can become easier to handle
Repeated exposure can help people adapt to particular movements. That doesn't make every new journey comfortable, though.
